Each Independence Day, residents and visitors from all over East Texas clamber for the best vantage point for a spectacular concert of neon bursts and resonant bangs as fireworks create a pyrotechnic tapestry over Lake Jacksonville. Fortunately for these eager spectators, there are a number of vantage points open to the public – the campground/swim area at the end of Byrd Road as well as Kiwanis Park off County Road 3108 (past the dam).
This much-anticipated annual event draws crowds by the droves and is a time-honored tradition for lake dwellers. An audience of boats numbering in the hundreds assemble front row and center of the lake’s watery stage while on-lookers line the shores from all directions.
The dynamite display is made doubly dynamic by the exceptionally crystal waters of Lake Jacksonville, lending a reflective effect to mirror the psychedelic aerial artistry illuminating the East Texas sky.
